ANNWN
Meaning The 'otherworld' or an alternate dimension in Welsh mythology - derived from the book of Mabinogi - Annwn is the first single released from Mathias’ Debut Album in 2022 - by the same name. Legends, Folkloric tales, traditional songs and original material are infused in to this concept album. She recorded the single and the album of the same name with session folk musicians in Jigcal Studios , Cardiff. The LP bridges the gap between traditional music and contemporary sounds - incorporating field recordings and tape recordings from her great-grandfather recorded from the late 70s.
The first single of the album Annwn considers a connection with the landscape, welsh culture and connection to the wild animals who roam the moorlands and mountains. The song takes inspiration from the book of Mabinogi , including elements of dark mythology derived from local folklore of Hafod and dark myths of mid-wales. She created visual inspiration incorporating these visual themes and dream like sequences. These influences can be found in the video which was shot in the magical village of Portmeirion in North Wales. The video enables us to connect to the imagination and creativity of Mari’s mind by allowing audience to immerse themselves completely in her world and the world of the magical beings of Annwn.

An original adaption of a traditional welsh folk song, with a haunting medieval melody that captures the essence of Spring. A reflective season for both nature and self. Released through Mari’s independent label , ‘TARIAN’ This first collaborative track of the EP is layered with rich vocal harmonies, mystical tones of the flute, haunting sounds of the ancient Tagelharpa , rhythmic guitar & percussion section.
